" - Toast Coetzer
Toe Bittereinder se bebaarde kletsrymer hierdie familie saam met ‘n dosyn akoestiese instrumente in ‘n voorstedelike motorhuis in ‘n myndorpie teëkom, was ‘n behoorlike Afrikaanse folk band ‘n amper onvermydelike resultaat.

" 'KNOPPIESDORINGSTRAAT EP' is ‘n verrassende, hoogs aangename debuut.

Ek reken dit ‘n hoogtepunt vir plaaslike musiek in 2012. " - Pieter Redelinghuys, LitNet

3RD WORLD SPECTATOR RELEASES NEW MUSIC VIDEO.

3RD WORLD SPECTATOR
Releases Their Music Video For SPARKS!

The 13th of August sees the release of 3RD WORLD SPECTATOR’s second music video from their debut album for their single, SPARKS. The video was shot in one evening during July 2012 in Gordon’s Bay in the Western Cape and filmed by The Schnider Bros.

The band has always seen SPARKS as the perfect example of the quintessential 3rd World Spectator song: It contains all the elements they love - the soft/loud dynamic, big chorus and a guitar solo. Directed by Peter Crafford and Kevin Schnider, the video was shot on an old boat littered with random objects. Shot at night to create a stark contrast between the boat setting and the dark, the boat resembles the remains of a space shuttle launch station to tie in with the stock footage of the Apollo 11 shuttle launch featured in the video.

3rd World Spectator opted for a pure performance video to capture the live energy the band are known to exude on stage. SPARKS, like their previous offering Ambulance, manifests a cinematic feel with a refined edge in the video. The most significant difference between the two videos is that the band was involved throughout the shoot and post-production of SPARKS, which unmistakably reflects their fingerprint.
“The SPARKS video is a pure labour of love. We love the song, as do a lot of our fans - a fact that has indulged both parties' need for this video.”

Since the release of their debut album, The Theory of Everything in late 2011 to critical acclaim, 3rd World Spectator has elicited extensive coverage in the press and media, has done countless radio interviews, appeared with live performances on national TV shows such as SABC 2’s Hectic Nine 9, MK’s Studio 1, ETV’s Frenzy and has toured South Africa extensively.

The first single from the album, ‘Ambulance’ exploded onto radio and digital charts around the country whilst cracking the National Top 40. The video for ‘Ambulance’ also reached number 2 on the MK Top 10 Music Video Chart. The second single for SPARKS followed and ignited radio play lists. Their third single, The Hiroshima Lovers, was recently released and is currently being play listed on radio stations across South Africa.

The band is currently working on a Deluxe Edition of their album, to be released through Universal Music Group later this year.

The Theory Of Everything is available at all major music outlets in South Africa.

Straatligkinders Back For More!

STRAATLIGKINDERS is BACK!

Two years since the release of their last album, Afrikaans rockers STRAATLIGKINDERS is officially back with a new single, entitled DUIWEL DANS. After four years of non-stop touring all over South Africa, the band decided to take an extensive break in 2010 to allow the members to venture off into other music avenues. Now in 2012, they are back and reinvented themselves with a new fresh sound and an objective approach in songwriting.
“We love what we do as Straatligkinders and we still have a lot in us and we still have a lot to say to our supporters.”

DUIWEL DANS was the first song written since the release of SLK’s previous album and also gives the listener a sneak peak at the mature, yet honest and fun, sound the band is pioneering towards. The band is putting more effort into the composition of their music, as opposed to just throwing verses and choruses together. They have all grown into their own different writing styles and are more focused on perfecting their songs rather than just writing and recording it.
“We sound more like a unit now. We found a sound that we are all happy and excited about. The direction we are going feels natural and we are not compromising or trying to write songs to keep people happy. We are now making the kind of music we want to make.”

STRAATLIGKINDERS signs with EMI

STRAATLIGKINDERS has recently signed with EMI. They like EMI’s approach to Afrikaans music and together with their guidance and experience, SLK’s sees their decision to sign with EMI as the best for them and their target market.
“We are an Afrikaans band, and you have to pick the best players for your team to help get your music out there.  EMI has a great footprint in the SA rock scene and it is great to have people on board who are willing to help us make the best of Straatligkinders’ career this time round. We are older now and we are aiming to make better decisions to assist in the longevity of the band.” - SLK.

“SLK moves with the times, they think with the future in mind, and give their fans what they want today… not what was working yesterday. In that sense, SLK is the perfect fit for EMI, as we strive to innovate and create to the music lovers’ needs, and ensure we keep people experiencing life with music...” - EMI.
